Weekly Recap: Mission Impossible Fallout, Blindspotting & More!

This week is one I know I've been waiting for because Mission: Impossible - Fallout is upon us. Given how reliable these Tom Cruise  movies are, it's a fine time to say everyone looking for a fun action film and more should go seek out this film on the biggest screen possible. If that's not enough, there's a true cinematic gem, Blindspotting , also out in more theaters. At home, you can find a fantastic Criterion Collection release, along with some other worthwhile releases. I also have a new write-up for this week's Preacher and a look at the trailer for Glass . Out Now Commentary: Mission: Impossible (1996)

Expect this impossible with this new commentary track from Out Now with Aaron and Abe . Aaron is joined by Alan Aguilera, Brandon Peters, and Scott Mendelson for a discussion of Tom Cruise ’s first self-produced blockbuster, Mission: Impossible . Listen in, as the guys talk all about the 90s espionage thriller. There’s lots of fun to be had in going over how differently this film plays from the sequels, where things went with Cruise, how director Brian De Palma really gave it his all, and plenty of other neat bits of information, stories, and tangents. Plenty of fun detail to be found in this entertaining track, so enjoy! So now, if you’ve got an hour to kill…

A lot is going on in theaters this week.  Mama Mia: Here We Go Again is taking on Denzel Washingon in Equalizer 2 , while the arthouse theaters get the further expansion of a few great films, along with the debut of Blindspotting . Wes Anderson's Isle of Dogs hit home video this week. There's also the exciting October announcement for The Criterion Collection . Plus, I wrote about this week's Preacher . Weekly Recap: Skyscraper, Eighth Grade & More!

This week's big release finds The Rock taking on Skyscraper . There's also another Hotel Transylvania out there. In limited release, there is lots of good stuff to look for. Eighth Grade is terrific, Sorry To Bother You goes wide, and Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot finds Gus Van Sant back in solid form. At home, you have A Quiet Place , which I didn't review, but it's good enough. Weekly Recap: Ant-Man and the Wasp, Sorry To Bother You & More!

This week takes a pretty light turn with the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp , a lighthearted affair from Marvel Studios . Also out is The First Purge , which is nothing exciting, even for fans of the series, although it's certainly an angry film with plenty in common with our current reality. In limited release is Sorry to Bother You , which is pretty great. You can also find my list for the top ten films of the year so far, so dig that. A few new things at home this week as well, plus a new Preacher review.
