How About That Trailer? - Star Wars: The Last Jedi
There's only so much to say, as it is just exciting to get a new Star Wars trailer, but thanks to Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, the big reveal has finally come. This December sees the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Episode VIII, which is written and directed by Rian Johnson and starring everyone you'd expect, plus some fresh blood. Go watch that and then come back.
Okay, so how about that? It's a teaser trailer for sure, as we are getting basically nothing beyond some establishing shots of certain environments and a reminder of the cast members from the first time around. John Williams' iconic themes do most of the heavy lifting and the only hint of a plot surrounds Rey going through Jedi training with Luke, who seems pretty sold on not enjoying Jedi life (but super cool with scraggly beards).
Obviously we will all be very curious how this film plays out. I wouldn't expect the nostalgia-heavy (and very enjoyable) Force Awakens to lead into a Last Jedi that hits many of the same beats as The Empire Strikes Back, but it's not like that would be the worst thing either. Regardless, seeing Luke and Rey hang out is one thing, but we also have more to see from Finn, Poe, Kylo Ren, BB-8 and all the others. There's also the hints of planets to come. Really it's mainly that island, a space battle, some bases and a white sand desert, but hey, that's enough to get something of a vibe for what's to come.
No real signs of newcomers Laura Dern, Benicio Del Toro or Kelly Marie Tran, but this is, again, just a teaser and there were the shots of everyone else. Sure, there will be more trailers to come that will possibly reveal these new folks along with possibly more plot details. but just how much of a mystery things will be in regards to this film, compared to last time, should be an interesting aspect to keep in mind.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to open December 15, 2018.
