How About That Trailer? - Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Trailer 2)

It's been months since the teaser trailer for the upcoming Star Wars film, but today is the day we have the full trailer for the highly anticipated blockbuster. This December sees the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Episode VIII, which is written and directed by Rian Johnson and starring everyone you'd expect, plus some fresh blood such as Kellie Marie Tran, Laura Dern and Benicio del Toro. Go watch that trailer above and then come back to read more and see the new poster and images.

Okay, so how about that?

With lots of concern for whether or not this film will play out similar to The Empire Strikes Back (spoilers, I highly doubt it), one certainly can't but get that sort of vibe from this trailer. Between Luke's distress, the training sequences and just a leaning towards darker scenarios in general, The Last Jedi very much seems like it is going in a counter direction from The Force Awakens. Of course, this is Star Wars and I have little cause to think Johnson's not going to deliver on the sense of wonder that comes from this franchise. I mean, did you see the Porg? That's just fun ready to jump out at audiences everywhere.

As for the look of this film, Steve Yedlin seems to be swimming in great cinematic moments. The stills below are incredible and I can't wait to just look at this movie. We can keep speculating over who Rey's parents are, what is Snoke and whether or not there will be a battle royale featuring only adorable droids, but this thing has epic scope written all over it. Yedlin has been with Johnson (among other filmmakers) since he started and he seems to have things under control in putting together another great film from a visual standpoint.

Not much to say about the performers, this is merely a trailer reaction post after all, but seeing Hamill speak and with such grave urgency makes for a compelling angle to look for. Given that I'm also all in for the new characters, I am plenty excited to see what kinds of twists and turns come there way. We still haven't seen much from this film, but there is really nothing holding me back from bracing for a huge event to satisfy my Star Wars needs.
